Educated at Stuart Hall, Staunton, Virginia, Montclair High School, Montclair, New Jersey, and graduated cum laude from Radcliffe College, majoring in Slavonic Languages and Literatures.
She studied voice for nine years and, during that time, became intensely interested in the stage direction of opera and operetta.
She married in 1950 and has three children: Alec Anthony, b. l952, Todd, b.l956, and Georgeanne, b.1959.
Her first novel, Restoree, was written as a protest against the absurd and unrealistic portrayals of women in science-fiction novels in the 50s and early 60s.
She is a past winner of both the Hugo and Nebula Awards, and has written many novels, short stories and novellas, and various articles. Named Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers of America, during the Nebula Awards weekend in Chicago, April 29-May 1 2005.
Her hobbies included riding, cooking and knitting.
She had her own website with a large bulletin board called The Kitchen Table and Live chat rooms called The Kitchen Table LIVE where not only Anne fans gather but also many other interested by other authors, too. The site has a large member community but is open to guests, too.
Regularly events are held, among them a monthly poll (who will play a character if a movie was made, just for fun).
