Kathryn Lasky was born and grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. While she was in school she was known as a "reluctant reader." The label was only half right, as she explains: "The truth was that I didn't really like the kind of books they had you reading at school."

Kathryn Lasky has written many books, including fiction and non-fiction. Her work has won awards such as the Newberry Honor, National Jewish Book Award, ALA best book for young adults, and Washington Post Children's book guild award.
