The Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot

Description: Excellent book! If you've read Boy Meets Girl and liked it, this book is definitely a great addition to your reading list. Almost all the characters from B.M.G. are in this one, and this original story is great at pulling you in. The Boy Next Door is actually the original in the "New York Journal" series, as I like to call it.

Mel Fuller, a page Ten gossip columnist for the New York Journal, is late (again) for work one day, because her next door neighbor, elderly Mrs. Friedlander (yes, the aunt to legendary photorapher Max Friedlander) is whacked on the head and knocked unconcious. So, it is Mel's neighborly duty to take care of the dog until her loathsome nephew can come take care of it. When this supposed insuffereable nephew turns up, every is surprised at his timid demeanor and ruggedly handsome good looks. There's just one catch. The nephew isn't really Friendlander, but John Trent, a writer for the NY Journal's biggest rival, the Chronicle.

And Mel is falling for him fast. Will she forgive him when she finds out this knight in shining armour isn't who he says he is? And just who tried to kill Mrs. Friedlander??
