Description: The book is a wonderful story about a middle class girl surviving in a world where the middleclass are not accepted. She experiences a life of hardship and love. The writing is fantastic; the story within a story keeps the reader constantly occupied. The characters are incredibly realistic and the love story is not corny. The Sci-Fi element was a wonderful twist to the realism of the story. It won the Booker Prize and the Govener General's Award in 2000.
