Ender then spends much of his adult life trying to save the race he almost destroyed. Ender's Shadow follows a boy called Bean, who rises from homelessness on the streets of Rotterdam to Ender's second in command and replacement if need be. Bean is only four years old when he is selected for training. His advanced intelligence, which would put most adults to shame, is established early in the book and has kept him alive until he comes to the attention of battle school recruiters, who have agents in every city...
