Description: After the death of their parents by mysterious wolflike creatures, a brother and sister are separated, their destinies taking them down separate paths.

Amero befriends a dragon named Duranix who agrees to help him found the first village to appear in the world of Krynn, and he soons becomes the headman of th village, which he names Yala-tene. Duranix lives in a cave above the village and protects it from harm.

Amero's sister, Nianki, becomes the leader of a fearless and barbaric band of nomads, wandering the plain and fighting anyone who threatens their claim to the plains. Calling herself Karada, she makes a name for herself as one of the bravest nomads on the plains.

But fate brings the long lost siblings together when Karada comes to Yala-tene to stock up on supplies. Brother and sister are reunited after more than ten years. But treachery within Karada's camp soon threatens the whole village, and Karada must find a different kind of courage to fight it.
