Description: When the sun shrank and the snows came, the humanoid hilfs left their nomadic life and dug themselves into Winter Cities to escape the cruel cold and the menace of the wild hordes of Gaal who each autumn streamed south away from the frozen lands. Behind the walls of Landin the dwindling colony sought refuge too, from a winter that would last fifteen of the years on the Earth from which they had come, six hundred years ago.
The hilfs feared the colonists, whom they called Farborn, and suspected of strange powers; their fear kept the lost colony lonely. But the Earthmen knew that their only hope of survival through that last long terrible winter was to join forces against their common enemy, the ravaging Gaal and the eerie preying snowghouls - join forces or be annihilated, lost for ever on their far Planet of Exile.
