Description: Kale is sent to live in the bogs and be apprenticed with the old but wondrous Wizard Fenworth. Kale is also there to help Fenworth raise a meech dragon-boy named Regidor. But before she gets there Kale runs in to some trouble and by the end of it she is awarded custody of a small doneel girl named Toopka, who regularly steals things, eats a lot and talks incessantly. But instead of being sent off all alone with only Toopka to come with her, Bardon is ordered to come with her! And neither of them can say a word about it. Bardon is a uptight sober knight-in-training.
But instead of having a quiet summer studying and learning how to be a wizard, Kale must go on a dangerous quest to rescue dragons that are being mind washed by Wizard Risto and his meech dragon-person.
