North Child by Edith PattouDescription: If you are in the mood for a book that will remind you of the folk tales you grew up with, or for those featured in 'The Storyteller' dramatisation by 'Muppets' mastermind Jim Henson, then this is a title you really should add to your collection. Borrowing it just isn't an option.
Set in the past where superstition dictates that the direction a child is born determines how their life will pan out. Try as she might Rose's mother tries to not to give birth to Rose facing north, only to have the truth come out years later and set in motion Rose's journey for love & adventure.
It is beautifully written and the author thankfully gives us a strongwilled female character that thrusts herself into situations that leave the reader lingering for more.. just another 5 mins often turns into 30.
Yes this title has already been printed in the US as 'East' in 2003. The UK edition however is a better quality edition printing wise and has a better designed jacket.
