Gypsy by Steven Brust

Description: This is a standalone fantasy novel set in our world.

There are three main characters around which the plot revolves, the Gypsy, Stepovich, and the Fair Lady.

The main character is the Gypsy, of the novel's title, who wanders the city with no knowledge of who he is and who he is seeking.

Stepovich to a city "cop", who is investigating incidents related to the Gypsy, and becomes more involved than he would ever want to be.

The Fair Lady is the cause of the Gypsy's loss of memory, and uses her dark powers to spin a tangled web of evil.

I did not find this novel's plot easy to follow. The text was sometimes too confusing to easily understand exactly what was going on, and keep me interested. The use of symbols to represent characters further confused the plot. There was a interesting use of Gypsy mythology, which is rarely used in contempory fantasy.

Overall this novel an strange, quirky story. 5 out of 10.
