About Author
Yukinobu Hoshino was born on the
northernmost island of Japan,
Hokkaido, in 1954. After studying
Japanese art at Aichi Art
College, he started his career as
a professional comic
writer/artist when 'Steel Queen'
was published in Weekly Shonen
Jump Extra in 1975. In the same
year, he received the Tezuka
Award as the best young comic
creatorfor his 'Morning Faraway'
and quickly established himself
as the most promising
writer/artist in 'hard'
science-fiction comics.
While publishing many other
excellent short science-fiction
stories, Hoshino established his
own unique styleof collecting
short and medium-sized stories of
the same theme into whole epics
with 'The Legends of a
Witch'(1979-80), the stories of a
witch reborn many times as
prominent women throughout
history.
This style continues in his most
important work so far, '2001
Nights', serialized in Monthly
Super Action from 1984 to 1986,
'2001 Nights' is Hoshino's
version of the future chronicles
of humanity's encounter with the
universe. Throughout this
critically acclaimed work.
Hoshino is now clearly recognized
as the best 'hard'
science-fiction creator in the
history of Japanese comics. He
currently lives in Hokkaido.
His other major works include
'Blue City'(1976), 'Saber
Tiger'(1981), The Fire of
Yamato(1983) and 'Yamataika(1987)
