He received his undergraduate degree from Hamilton College, where he majored in English Literature, and his graduate degree from the School of Law at Washington & Lee University.
A writer since high school, Terry Brooks published his first novel, The Sword of Shannara in 1977. It became the first work of fiction ever to appear on the New York Times Trade Paperback Bestseller list, where it remained for five months. He has published twenty consecutive bestelling novels since. A practising attorney for many years, he now writes full-time.
Writes mainly fantasy novels, with the exceptions of the film novelisations of Hook and The Phantom Menace. "Running with the Demon" and "A Knight of the Word", the opening volumes in his "Word versus Void" series were included in "Rocky Mountain News" list of Top 100 works of Fantasy and Scince Fiction.
