| Shirley was born in New York in 1983 and was diagnosed with severe Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis at only 11 months old and completely lost her eyesight at age 17. Due to many years of hospitalization, Shirley started school at age 11 without any prior education. Miraculously, she only spent five months in elementary school before transferring to middle school and she is a straight A student.
