About Author
Robert L. Forward is a consulting scientist, future technologist, lecturer, and science fact and fiction writer. He is the owner and Chief Scientist of Forward Unlimited, a consultant firm specializing in exotic physics and advanced space propulsion, and a partner and chief scientist of Tethers Unlimited, a partnership formed in 1994 with Dr. Robert P. Hoyt, specializing in highly survivable space tethers. He is the author of ten science fiction novels, the sequel to Dragon's Egg, and three works of science fact plus numerous popular science articles and short stories.

Robert L. Forward was a senior researcher in physics at the Hughes
Research Laboratory in Malibu, Calif. Forward became an extremely
popular hard SF writer starting with the publication of his first novel
DRAGON'S EGG in 1980. The book elaborated on actual research ideas
concerning the possibility of life evolving on the surface of a neutron
star. The book won the Locus Award and was followed by a sequel,
STARQUAKE. Forward referred to DRAGON'S EGG as "a textbook on neutron
star physics disguised as a novel."

Forward wrote 11 hard SF novels, always striving for (and coming close
to achieving) complete scientific accuracy. Before losing his personal
struggle with brain cancer, Forward prepared his own obituary. It begins
with a characteristically witty remark: "The intelligent pattern of
protoplasm that had been Robert L. Forward ceased coherent operation on
September 21, 2002."
