About Author
Growing up in rural Maine, Nathan Lowell learned that books provided access to the worlds of imagination. He spent his formative years devouring the works of Heinlein, Asimov, and Bradbury. In his youth he wanted to become an author but soon realized he lacked the experience and perspective--not to mention financial stability--to pursue a life of letters. The Viet Nam war provided the incentive and his proximity to the coast, the opportunity. In 1970, after graduating from high school he enlisted in the US Coast Guard, trained as a radioman, and served for a year in the North Atlantic aboard the USCGC Active before being transferred to Communications Station Kodiak AK. These experiences became the fundamental building blocks of his later writings.

After leaving the Coast Guard in 1975, he spent twenty years in information systems, before making the shift to education in the early 90's.

From 1999 until 2010, he worked at helping to make the web more accessible for people who are blind or have other disabilities that prevent their using the affordances of the internet, particularly for the purposes of online education. He served as Technologies Coordinator the for National Center on Severe and Sensory Disabilities from its inception in 2001 until Federal funding expired in 2010.

In January, 2007, he once again turned to writing, having accumulated half a century of experience and perspective. His "Golden Age of the Solar Clipper" series now includes six titles, and he has written a seventh book, the fantasy, Ravenwood, all of which are available as free audio downloads from Podiobooks.com and the iTunes Music Store.

In January, 2010, he signed his first contract to produce the books in text formats with Ridan Publishing. They released his first book, Quarter Share, in the spring of 2010. His second title is due out in October, 2010.

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Marketing minor from SUNY/Buffalo in 1992 and a Master of Arts in Educational Technology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1998. He began his PhD in 1999 and earned his doctorate in Educational Technology with specializations in Distance Education, Instructional Design, and Interactive Media in 2004.
