David Weber is often compared to C.S. Forester (the celebrated creator of Captain Horatio Hornblower, on whom Weber's own Honor Harrington is largely based) and is the recipient of the sort of critical praise once reserved for a Heinlein or an Asimov.
His novels range from epic fantasy (Oath of Swords, The War God's Own) to breathtaking space opera (Path of the Fury, The Armageddon Inheritance) to military science fiction with in-depth characterization (the celebrated and awesomely popular Honor Harrington series. "Ashes of Victory" made it to the New York Times bestsellers list, and the latest instalment in the series is "War of Honor" (2003).
There is no doubt that David Weber is becoming one of the greats of space opera and sci-fi military fiction of late 20th and early 21st Century.
The attention to detail in charactetrisation and military/space technology summons up echoes of Jules Verne and Heinlein at the same time.
We should all look forward to more great work from this author. The series of Honor Harrington books is well worth reading, as are his other books, undoubtedly.
