Celia Friedman parents Herbert and Nancy are both deceased, she has one brother (also a writer). She shares her house with several large cats and numerous tidbits of antique clothing.
She also choreographs sword fight scenes in her spare time, and may be found participating in SCA renaissance festivals as well. Says the author, "I used to choreograph stage fencing, and also fenced myself, both modern (college varsity) and with a rapier company (The League of Renaissance Swordsmen). It has been a long, long time since any of that." This may be, though she has confessed that she still designs and makes period costumes from time to time.
