| The Forgotten Warrior by Erin Hunter (Copperflower) 'Jadis' Everlost by Neal Shusterman (Blackwing) 'pretty good. seemed a little too lighthearted for a YA novel dealing with themes of death and the afterlife, but very original, even if some things irked me. it's no masterpiece like Unwind was, but a fun read I'll probably read again sometime, though I probably won't read the sequel unless I find it at the library.' Unwind by Neal Shusterman (Blackwing) 'wow, LOVED this book. really, it was fantastic. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not because I thought Everlost (another book by Shusterman) was good but not the best thing ever, but I was blown away by Unwind. The characters are brilliant - Lev is particularly complex and interesting to read about, and reminds me a bit of Nico di Angelo from Percy Jackson - and the premise is very thought-provoking in a way that's not entirely comfortable, but intriguing nonetheless. A warning: there's one scene towards the end that's certainly not for the squeamish or people easily freaked out. I'm not squeamish at all when it comes to books, but it completely freaked me out, not gonna lie. -I think the power of this novel, and the power of the author, lie in the fact that this is a book debating pro-life and pro-choice (i.e. abortion issues), and that in the end, it doesn't come down completely on one side or the other. Whatever Neal Shusterman may believe personally on the matter, he does not use this book as an excuse to downright preach to the readers. Rather, he introduces the opposite sides of an issue, demonstrates pros and cons of each one, and the theme seems to end up being that with huge debates like this, there isn't always a totally right or wrong side. And that, I think, is why I have new respect for Shusterman, and certainly a love for this book. -And I know, I'm making it sound like the whole story is a boring debate, but it's definitely NOT. The action is nonstop, the present-tense narrative keeps everything immediate and crisp, and the characters are always in danger of being caught and having their body parts salvaged. Then I expect she’s feeling confused because she liked Cedric and now
she likes Harry, and she can’t work out who she likes best. Then she’ll
be feeling guilty, thinking it’s an insult to Cedric’s memory to be kissing
Harry at all, and she’ll be worrying about what everyone else
might say about her if she starts going out with Harry. And she probably
can’t work out what her feelings toward Harry are anyway, because
he was the one who was with Cedric when Cedric died, so that’s
all very mixed up and painful. Oh, and she’s afraid she’s going to be
thrown off the Ravenclaw Quidditch team because she’s been flying so
badly.”
A slightly stunned silence greeted the end of this speech, then Ron
said, “One person can’t feel all that at once, they’d explode.”

The Miko by Eric Van Lustbader (YuvieK) 'An amazing and somewhat unpredictable sequel to stunning and groundbreaking first installment... Eric not only manages to keep the suspense and thrill of the world alive but increases the peril, danger and depth of the plot... Nichloas it seems will not be let off easy for his act of justice in the first story.. Again, our hero finds himself against 'Pandora's box' aka a person who wishes to avenge Nicholas's nemesis's death in a plot that threatens both his company and his life.. Beautiful oriental imaginary, convincing and believable relationships both East and West, struggling to live against and amidst the Daimyo ethos that is so engraved into the hearts of Japans most feared, dark and ruthless warriors in it's modern day, as it has always been for many centuries, in the land of the Orient... Power packed, richly illustrated...visceral imagination... Simply wonderful.. ' |

But I am just getting nervous about marching band - oh dear, I fear for some sections, and our first show will most likely be a disaster as we haven't learned the steps yet - however, we're learning it this week in band camp, so we'll probably be fine. Memorizing music is what I fear for. And I'm getting anxious about the fall play. I REALLY want to impress the director. She's met me before, and I've let her know I'm interested, but I'm so nervous. I hope that Redwillow and Shrew(tail, is it?) are very nice. I made a FanFic about them one time, and they were my favorite characters. But my favorite characters (that are never really mentioned so I give them my own personalities that I choose and wind up loving them) wind up as big bullies and meanies. Haha! Unlucky me, huh? Heehee! Fading Echoes by Erin Hunter (NewProphecy) 'Me? Hmm...instrumental music, showtunes, and the Beatles. Heehee! You? The Fourth Apprentice by Erin Hunter (NewProphecy) 'Awesome. Perfect. I can't wait! I made up my own FanFiction idea about before the Clans were created. That cat who said, "You're all as foolish as ducks!" in Secrets is the main character. Her name is Fawn, and her father is best friends with Thunder (who's a big bully). Shadow is her mother's best friend. Her father abandoned them both, leaving Fawn and her mother to fend for themselves. After her mother is killed by a rockfall because of an accident by Thunder and Buck (Fawn's father), Fawn has to learn to survive on her own. River teaches her everything he knows once he finds her drowning, trying to fish. Fawn and River are fishing one day (Fawn is about seven moons old at this point) when they see a young brown she-cat with kits screaming for help because her mate is about to be killed in a fight. Fawn and River go and help, and they find Shadow already there and fighting for the she-cat's mate. They chase off the rotten thieves (who Fawn recognizes as some of her father's friends) together, and the little family introduce themselves as Wind and Gorse, with their kittens Red and Dusty. River decides to stay and help Gorse hunt for his family, and so Fawn parts ways with him. Fawn is hunting, moons later, and ends up in a fight with this big black tom who nearly kills her. In the end, Thunder shows up and stops the fight, and then stares at Fawn incredulously and says, "You're Buck's kit, aren't you?" THunder heals her (to my own shock, I made it that Thunder was a gifted healer) and then send her on her way. Shadow and Fawn meet up again later on, and Shadow comments to Fawn, "You're four seasons old, Fawn. It seems like yesterday that you were palying with my tail!" And then Fawn decides that she wants to make something more of her life, and she decides that she wants to have a family. The story keeps going, and Fawn eventually finds a tom that she really likes. But then, he leaves her because he fell for Red, Wind's kit. Fawn meets up with River again as she tries to find Wind and Gorse, and the two of them spend about three moons together before the big battle takes place. During the battle, Fawn is struck down by the big black tom that nearly killed her before, and dragged to the side by Shadow, who warns her to steer clear of the rest of the battle. Sadly, though, Fawn sees a tom going after River (her father-like figure, her mentor, and her best friend), and she gets in his way. The tom attacking River? It's Buck. So, Fawn is murdered by her own father, and she decides that she never wants this to happen to any other cat ever again. She gathers all of her dying strength, and the last words she says are, "Join me in the stars." She is the first cat to go to StarClan, and in doing so, she creates the first Clan and the idea of the Clans in all. Didn't he? Anyways - yeah, Firestar has killed...but lately he's been being somewhat of a wimpy leader.
